Colleagues,
The Biological and Environmental Sciences Department and the Chattanooga
Environmental Education Alliance are sponsoring the first annual Public
Interest Environmental Symposium (PIES). This symposium will be held on
Friday, April 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at the University Center. The
day will be comprised of keynote speakers and working sessions where
attendees will be asked to participate in developing creative solutions to
address environmental issues shared by all citizens in the Chattanooga area.
Representative Zach Wamp is scheduled to speak at lunch. Focus areas for
the working sessions are Environmental Justice, Urban Sprawl, Sustainable
Economic Development and Natural Resource Management. After the symposium a
"white paper"will be produced and distributed outlining the recommended
sustainable directions for our region. The Tennessee Aquarium will host a
social that evening for symposium participants.
Registration is free. If you are interested in hearing Zach Wamp speak,
there is a $5 fee for lunch. To register visit the symposium web site at
www.geocities.com/df3970/pies.html, or contact me directly.
