The Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) at UTC was recently
featured in a story in the HUD COPC Central newsletter. Twelve local boys who
participated in a COPC-supported reading club were given the opportunity
to meet Ruben "Hurricane" Carter, a famous boxer, after reading his
biography. The next project that the reading club students will
participate in is meeting Evelyn Coleman, author of Circle of Fire, along
with several other individuals who participated in the civil rights
movement.
The reading program is a collaborative effort among the COPC, the Martin
Luther King Neighborhood Association, and the Invest in the Children
Foundation. It is under the direction of Project Coordinator Beverly Scott.

Congratulations to the COPC on being recognized for its outreach
efforts.
