Effective immediately, all UTC campus phone numbers will begin with
the three-digit exchange of 425.  This replaces the current 755, 757,
785, 321, and other numbers on campus.  The last four digits of the
numbers will remain the same and dialing from on campus will not be
affected.

This change eliminates confusion caused from having a variety of
exchanges as well as problems with misdialed calls for downtown
businesses.  The new exchange also provides additional numbers to
accommodate the need as the campus grows and adds more phones.

The 425 exchange is operational and BellSouth has been working with
Communication Services to test numbers from off and on campus. If you
encounter a number that does not work with the 425 exchange, please
report both the number called from and the number called to Michael
Scott at 5284,

Excluded from this change will be 266-MOCS, the Arena ticket line.

The existing exchanges will remain operational for several months
before a message is added indicating the number change. The area code
remains 423.

Departments should make the necessary changes to stationery,
publications, and websites as updates are made.

We apologize for the obvious inconvenience this is going to pose;
however, the long-term benefits are great to the campus.
