Just about a year ago, there was a mass exodus of the entire staff,
(publisher, editor, sales team; and key contributors - like Tony Wu).
They - the owners - threw money at me to stay on and, being the greedy
little bastard that I am, I agreed. The reason that I've now decided to
go is the magazine's continuing lack of direction or purpose; the lack of
passion or understanding about diving; their inability to view publishing
as a business that ultimately relies on industry and reader support; and the
crippling restrictions that they wanted to place on me in terms of who I
could and could not write for! In short, I left because of 'philosophical
differences'! :-)
Having been with the magazine since its concept stage, it's not a decision
that I arrived at lightly! :-)
