Nope, it was simply afraid of the prospect to be taken into pieces.
I have found that threatening misbehaving hardware with a screwdriver,
a hammer or a soldering iron makes it cooperate very often .
Your printer is an example of a more intelligent device, as it already
anticipated your intention when you looked at the serial number.
