For the English (only) speaking audience, "merde" is French for scat, dung,
excrement, or feces.
It makes the ending line of the article,"Michael Capellas, who under the
agreement was destined to be No. 2 anyway." more poignant.
A spell check on merde even brings up the possible correction of merger.
