Well now its my turn to be offended. Never once did Carly's gender come up
in the discussion. Her style, her vision and even her competence were
questioned but her anatomy never entered into it.

I know of many instances where this list applauded Carly in her early days.
Many, myself included, where proud to be in anyway connected to the first
Dow Jones 30 company with a female CEO. It showed what a progressive forward
thinking company HP was. It was the ultimate proof of the correctness of the
HP WAY.

Subsequent actions, reactions and interactions may have changed people's
opinion of Carly. Some of the arguments have been based on logic some on
emotion. I will not get into the debate about under lying sexism, racism and
xenophobia as being underlying factors in all decisions made and stands
taken in a white male society. I will state emphatically that I do not
recall any overt sexist remarks made on this list in any of the merger
debates. Unlike The Augur I will not attribute unstated reasons to anyone.

As for the meaning of the word auger, Guy Avenell correctly points out that
it is one that observes omens. What his quote does not say is that those
omens were usually found in the entrails of animals. These animals were
generally slaughtered by or for the recipient of the auger's prophecy.

My question to The Augur is who is your client and what animals have been or
will have to be slaughtered so that you can poke around in their guts? (no
smiley face)

The opinions expressed herein are my own and not necessarily those of my
employer.
Yosef Rosenblatt

PS Either way the merger vote turns out HP will be a significant player in
the computer industry for years to come. (No animals died in the creation of
this statement.)
