I, on the other hand, try not to get too dependent on it. I keep
remembering when someone in operations (many years ago) issued an MPEX
command that changed the filecode of EVERY file in the system to 'HPSLATE'.
What made things worse, is that they did not call me or another programmer
to try to recover from it, but instead decided to 'reload' the system thus
loosing an entire day's work.
They did call the RC and the RC concurred with the 'reload' decision. Of
course the RC did not know that we kept an on-line listing of the full and
partial backups. This meant that using MPEX to first 'recover' our editor
(quad) we could have created a command file from the backup listing and
have MPEX revert the files back their original file codes.
