Will the Old Republic be swept away by the new Empire?

Carly has done her job smartly and well: From the time she was hired, she
has worked toward the merger; everything is now in place--she spent months
planning the new merged structure by positioning to place executives where
they will fit best to manage the new corporation.

Carly has also has also carried on a highly successful non-stop carefully
planned media campaign while successfully carrying on an enormous job
behind the scenes.

The Europeans and the FTC both acceded to her persuasion.

She had a plan; she has been carrying out successful processes; only one
thing stands in her way to consummate the job for which she was hired.

In the end, the shareholders may just decide that it may be in the best
interest in the long term for her to finish the job Carly started in spite
of last minute nay-sayers.

One thing that seems self-evident: The plan had to include the demise of
MPE as long as two years ago; it may very well have been that the only
reason that the A and N class processors were presented as an HP3000
product is that they were already in the pipeline.

When the merger takes place, it will spell the end of Executive Privilege
among those long time managers at HP, in favor of a much more nimble-footed
corporation more amenable to Generation-X tastes.
