For those who might be interested, there is a still functional working IBM
370 Basic Assembly Language (BAL) environment that works on the PC; the
PC/370 v4.2 IBM 370 assembler and emulator is at:

http://www.simtel.net/pub/pd/45216.html

You can write and execute IBM 370 Assember on your PC in a DOS box.

It comes in a Zipped file and you can either put this on a floppy and us
the install.bat (after it's partially unzipped) or do what I did and unzip
the zip file into a directory, then take the remaining zip files, create
the appropriate directory and unzip the zip file into the directory:

For example: pkunzip BAT.zip into the BAT directory.

It works, and the demo actually does a number of things, include pop the
screen mode and produce a graph.

This is all run from the DOS box with generated .com files; it is not
particularly windows friendly [pifs, anyone?].

It does have it's own full screen editor [see.com].

It is ideal for people like me who might want to develop small algorithms
in IBM Assembly language, and not have to go to the mainframe.

Or you may just be a hobbyist who wants an old technotoy to play with.
