I was under the impression Protos was a COBOL generator.

It may sound simplistic, but can't you run your PROTOS
to dump your code as it stands now into COBOL, ... then
just migrate the COBOL?

(Of course my impression could be wrong and I'm totally
off the mark and a total buffoon.)

We would like to upgrade (in the short term) to an A series
box, but the cost of transferring our Protos license from our
927LX to an A400 is prohibitively expensive.

Unfortunate, about half of our programs are written in Protos.
The rest are written in Cobol.

One possibility would be to hire help to convert all the
Protos programs to Cobol. And we are considering that.

But that will be a waste if we later have to purchase
third-party software anyway due to difficulties of
migrating our home grown software off the HP3000.

Any ideas?
