Hello Friends:

Art said he's spent three hours looking for a PCL-compatible dot
matrix printer for his HP 3000. By some coincidence I just heard from
the vendor of some of these units. They sell a replacement for the
P405 dot matrix units which HP stopped selling in July, but their Web
site lists these as serial printers. This vendor was actually
building those HP printers until HP stepped away from its non-inkjet
businesses last year. He reports that HP did a poor job of notifying
the customer base of where to get the printers, ribbons for those
which have been installed, and so forth after HP exited the business.

The vendor is Impressions Technology, based in Florida. They are a US
rep for the German company Printer Systems International which made
HP's P405, according to Frank Price, the president. He gave a US
number of 800-881-8700, and you can reach him at
[log in to unmask] The company sells a PP405 printer which has
more modern firmware than the P405 units, which HP apparently was
selling as replacements for the HP2934 and 2932. Price may also have
something that can be networked to a 3000 in his Tally line, though I
don't know if it's PCL-capable.

HP was also recommending the P405 as a replacement for the old
RuggedWriter printers. They even said out on their ITRC Forum that
adding the option SERIAL_PRINTER_SIMULATION = TRUE to your
NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS file might help get a serial printer onto a network.

What are members of the list using for dot matrix printing with their
HP 3000s? Are there any users out there of the PSI PP405, or HP's
P405?
