just to belatedly follow-up.....

thomas (and several others) hit the nail on the head!  i got into my prefs.js
file and found the line that defined the size of the rectangle for new/reply
messages.  after a swag at the coordinates, i started netscape back up and
tada!!! :-)  life is good again.  thanks everyone :-)     - d
