Looks like:
1) your hardware clock is way off (unless you wrote the email
on September 5, 2001, and it got delayed a bit :)
Note: the hardware clock should *always* be set to GMT (UTC) time.
2) *and* you don't have a TZ variable setup, showing what timezone
you are in.
The former should definitely be fixed, ASAP. There are various
methods of doing this (search HP3000-L if interested). The short
form is:

Basically, the free FIXCLOCK command file assumes that your "system time"
(the time reported by :SHOWTIME) is correct. Then, when you run the
command file with your GMT offset (e.g., 8 for PST), it updates
the hardware clock to be the correct GMT.
The latter ought to be fixed. IIRC, our system-wide logon UDC does:
setvar tz "PST8PDT"
