Ms. Dawn Ford of Biological and Environmental Sciences was funded for
$30,000 by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to support training
for Bradley, Hamilton, and Polk County science teachers.

The project will serve 20 in-service science teachers in grades 3-8
with training entitled Global Learning and Observations to Benefit
the Environment(GLOBE). This program is a K-12 hands-on science and
math program focusing on Earth system science in which the students
measure environmental parameters at a site on or near school grounds
using standard protocols and equipment. Students then upload their
measurements onto the GLOBE website to be shared with the classroom
and used by other GLOBE school as well as the worldwide environmental
science community. The teachers participating in the workshop will
attend a four-day workshop to be held at UTC in summer 2002.

Congratulations to Ms. Ford on being recognized for her expertise in assisting
local teachers to improve their knowledge and skills in environmental
sciences.
