Subject: Help required

Folk, this is on behalf of Fraser Purdon. If you can please send your views
to the given addresses, it will be much appreciated. Also feel free to
spread it through other lists. Thank you.

To Everyone on This List,

I need your help!!

The attached e-mail describes a proposed plan by the Cayman Islands Gov't
to
re-locate and build a dock on the East End of Grand Cayman.

This end of the island is un-spoilt on land and underwater, both of which
are now threatened. Those who have never been to Cayman......please act or
you may not have the chance to see the beauty that I see every day.

Please voice your objection in as many forums as you can. Forward to Tech
Diver, Rec-Scuba....anywhere please.

Please also e-mail the following:-

Arden Mclean (Gov't Official for East End) <[log in to unmask]>

Tim Austin (Assitant Director of the Dept. of Enviroment)
<[log in to unmask]>

Cayman Compass (National Newspaper) <[log in to unmask]>

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

Cheers

Fraser

"I have been diving East End in Grand Cayman for 20 years and just returned
from a trip last week. While there, we learned that the Cayman government
has written a proposal to relocate the cargo ship terminal from Georgetown
to Half Moon Bay, near the Blowholes. The new terminal would sit
practically
on top of Ironshore Gardens, Kelly's Caverns, Grouper Grotto, etc. and
wouldalmost certainly have severe polluting impacts on the wall dive sites
in that area. We spoke to Ocean Frontiers and also Tortuga Divers about the
proposal and learned that the neither the Marine Conservation Board, the
Department of Environment, nor the dive community had been told about the
proposal until their last meeting in December, just two weeks ago.
Apparently the government's objective is to expand the Georgetown dock area
to accommodate up to 10 cruise ships/day. Relocating the cargo terminal to
Half Moon Bay would expedite this. Coincidentally, the most recently held
post of the newly appointe! d Director of Tourism, a woman from Florida,
was Vice President of Cruise Operations with Renaissance
Cruises."
