Since I wrote earlier today, we have confirmed with the vendor that we did
receive all of the records, so the remaining issue is why is FTP hanging.
This is happening regularly now and did not occur previously.

Can't you, for now, analyse your system log files for fopens and fcloses to
see the history of the 'missing' file
