After good comments by Alfredo and Ted, my proposed OPENMPE
enhancement wording is now:
================================================
"CSY facilitate release or transfer of MPE, Image/SQL, compilers,
and other pertinent sub-systems to another entity or entities; on a
timeline and in a manner that allows those "other entities" a chance
to ramp up to be ready to take over support and enhancement of
MPE and its sub-systems no later than end of HP support in 2006.
A prime consideration to be that MPE users not see a break in the
availability of support contracts at the end of 2006.
================================================
Ted noted:
> I realize that that's asking a lot, but this is, after all, a wishlist.
Actually, I don't think that's asking too much at all; seems like a
perfectly reasonable request to me.... :-)
> CSY can say, "ok, we'll do our best, but 'no break' is kinda
> unrealistic" and we can say, "that's fine--all we're asking is that
> you do your best."
Right: It would be up to third parties to actually deliver the support;
really what we are asking is for HP not to *hinder* them if they want
(as several have already said) to continue to provide hardware and
software support for MPE.... Don't forget that there are a number of
reputable 3rd party vendors providing both hardware and software
support right now (within the limits of current HP licensing schemes);
so I don't think avoiding a break in "basic support" should be an issue.
Third-party enhancement work without HP oversight would be a brave
new world...
