From personal and professional experience, allow me to add that anyone who
can break into an office can break into a filing cabinet.
On a related note, the University's self-insurance plan does not cover any
personal property owned by a University employee. If something belongs to
you, take it home. If the University is unable or unwilling to purchase
something you need to do your job, you alone assume the risk by bringing it
to work. If its value is less than your homeowners or renters' deductible
for personal property, you alone suffer the loss.
