This is quite a serious post: It may be that IBM could be made to be
interested in hosting MPE as an LPAR on their mainframe.

This is not as far fetched as it may sound at first--IBM is an expert in
operating systems, produces more patents each year than anyone else, and is
more than capable to take over any technology it chooses, and make it work.

Here at the County, we are currently reviewing proposals for purchasing an
H30 computer to run OS/390 [as an upgrade]--and if we choose the $20,000
off for having LINUX, installed, we will be able to run both LINUX and
OS/390 simultaneously.

Truth be told, the H30 is not a CMOS processor, but actually runs OS/2!

OS/2 boots what ever other systems there are to boot [just click on the
appropriate icon!].

There is a special card inserted into the PC to emulate the CMOS OS/390
instruction set.

There would be porting issues at first, to be certain, but once up and
running, MPE could be a cash cow for IBM.

IBM currently has a reputation for being much more stable than HP when it
comes to operating systems, and if the CSY were moved to be IBM employees,
it certainly do a lot for morale, not to mention, the proposition that they
could come to work in the morning without wondering if were to be their
last day [definition of an optimist: A person who works for Boeing and
brings their lunch instead of their raincoat].

I am not completely certain, but I do believe that software maintenance
dollars are actually used--and this is a really revolutionary idea--for
paying for, like, software maintenance, as opposed to going into to
some "general fund" with the purchase of new processors to fund the
software efforts.

There is certainly an overlap in technology, for IBM using Open Systems,
deploy Apache and other open source software.

If this acquisition were successful, it might not be long that TurboImage
might be ported to native mode LINUX, for, IBM has as a fundamental
proposition [another revolutionary idea] of, like, actually providing the
customers what they want [you want a green suit, we turn on the green
light]!

So, it may very well be possible, even if HP is apathetic toward MPE,
another, quite viable vendor committed to actually supporting operating
systems, might see an advantage of picking up HP customers who have been
abandoned by their vendor [it certainly makes you wonder about the maturity
of IBM vs HP, doesn't it? And wouldn't this just be the perfect revenge?].

Just think of the possibilities for growth in your own career!

Or we could just forget about the whole thing.
