Using DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP LDev COMPRESSION=ENABLE
would set the hardware compression.
It may also be a problem with the >65,532 files on a single tape.
MPELXV2A (6.0)
MPELXV2B (6.5)
MPELXV2C (7.0)
will fix that problem..Also turning on ;STATISTICS as one of your STORE
options
may give you some clues..

Subject: DLT Compression/Density
I just started using a DLT7000 drive, with DLTtape IV. I have a 82 Gb file
system that is 50% (41Gb in use) full. The tape media claims capacity of
35/70Gb when used with a DLT7000 drive. I have the DLT7000 compression on,
at least the light is on, so why does my backup require a second tape? Could
some one on the list tell me how to set the DLT7000 to use the least amount
of tape space, so I can get the maximum byte count on one tape?
Thanks in advance,
