umm...well...i'm not sure how to answer your questions exactly, but i'd say
to have the ' '. a better answer would be to treat what's passed in with
single quote to be treated as a whole.

that didn't work :-(
but! i got a private reply that said to preceed the single quotes with a
slash. that is: /'blah blah/' and that seems to work. yet another mystery
solved, eh? :-) - d
