"Picking on"? Sorry, I don't see it. Indeed, the correction was supplied
specifically because I also got the (possibly incorrect) impression of a
non-native speaker. Well, that and the fact that I've seen a number of
known-native English users make the same mistake.

FWIW, if I decide that someone needs to be "picked on", that intent will
probably be pretty clear....
