What Craig said is bunk...

Just kidding.  He is quite correct.  Just let ne add a few things.  You can convert the drive at any time, but what happens is that a flag is set and the drive is converted at the next bootup.  In other words, the convertion does not occur in real time.

You cannot use NTFS on a flopppy, BTW.

Finally, there have been some instances of people having a problem going from 98 to 2000.  In my opinion, it is better to reformat the disk and start fresh, in NTFS, on a clean disk than to upgrade.  This of course means that you must have good backups and the installation media for all your applications.

One more thing, if you are using a laptop, check your system vendor's website to see if they have installation documents or hints for 2000 on your system.  They may also have drivers and other enhancements for your system.
