Gently, please. Even if HP should announce the end of the product line on
November 14, it cannot "kill off" or announce "the death of" the 3000. Even
if you have heard such a voice mail, I can assure Winston that *my* 3000
isn't
dead. It's faithfully chugging along as it always has.

I am reminded of the fears surrounding Y2K. Even if HP stands up on the
14th
and says that it will make no more 3000s, the 3000s in our shops will
continue
to run. 3000-L will continue to function. I would expect it to be filled
with
discussion of contingency plans and the denizens would then have the
combined
wisdom of "the -L" to aid them in their plans.

If we remain calm and the announcement does not happen, all of this will be
no
more than a bad memory. On the other hand, if we decide prior to the 14th
to
spread FUD far and wide, it will almost certainly have a negative effect on
the
installed base. It's worth remembering that many 3000 shops have left the
platform simply due to reports of MPE's death.
