Whether this is a good deal from the bean-counter perspective depends on the
revenue & costs generated by CSY. In any case this analysis excludes
goodwill. A lot of companies have invested heavily in MPE, based on HP's
assurances that they would continue to support it for the foreseeable
future. HP has reneged on that commitment, and has thus damaged their
credibility. I know I won't trust them for a good while, if ever...

I did, but you're right, it won't change anything. I've NEVER seen a
manager who backed away from doing something stupid just because he or she
was advised against it by the smartest people in the world.

Doing the deadpool math, estimate 50000 HP-3000 and 100000 HP-9000
companies. (these are TOTALLY MADE UP FIGURES) Now assume HP will convince
40% to migrate and lose 60%. It means they've increased ONE of their
businesses by about 20% and cut the costs of operating one division. Looks
like a good deal if you're a bean-counter.

If Dave and Bill were alive though, the bean counters would be selling
burritos and delivering pizzas.

In the meantime, I'm practicing smiling while I say "Would you like fries
and a coke with that?"

Great idea Jim!

If everyone here sent her an email detailing their response to this insane
announcement, maybe it will, well, um, okay, maybe it won't change anything,
but I feel better!
