I apologize for the second notice, but two events were left off the
list of catered events in the previous posting by our office. We
apologize for this.

A food service worker employed by ARAMARK, who holds the Food
Services and Catering contract for The University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga, has been diagnosed with the Hepatitis A virus, and the
results of tests are pending for a second employee who may have also
been affected. The Hamilton County Health Department was notified
immediately and is working closely with ARAMARK and UTC officials to
address the situation.

The Hamilton County Health Department emphasizes that potential risk
to the campus community and guests is minimal. The affected employee
is a part-time employee in ARAMARK's Catering Department and served
at a limited number of events during the time in which it may have
been possible for the virus to be transmitted. The affected employee
is receiving proper medical care and as a precautionary measure, all
Food Services employees are being tested. ARAMARK has asked the
Health Department to inspect and recertify all UTC food service
facilities to ensure public safety, and the Health Department
continues to guide UTC and ARAMARK.

Those who have attended catered events where the affected employee
worked are being notified. These events are:

Date Event

October 6 American Math Society
October 6 Upward Bound
October 6 Sigma Gamma Rho--area meeting
October 6 Prism
October 9 Chancellor's Round Table
October 11 UTC Football training table
October 15 UTC Football training table
October 16 UTC Football training table
October 18 SunTrust Chair reception
October 18 Reformed University Fellowship meeting

Hepatitis A is a viral illness characterized by an abrupt onset of
symptoms that resemble intestinal flu. Hepatitis A does not cause
permanent damage to the liver and is life threatening only when
complicating other health circumstances exist.

Patients with symptomatic infection are most likely to spread the
infection during the 2 weeks preceding the onset of symptoms. A
potential risk of exposure by the affected ARAMARK employee began
October 6 through October 18. Symptoms may be present from 2-6 weeks
after exposure.

Those demonstrating symptoms are advised to seek a physician's help
if they experience the following:

         o Fever
         o Loss of appetite
         o Loss of energy
         o Nausea
o Abdominal discomfort, dark urine, followed within a few days by
jaundice (yellowish color).
            (Many cases are without jaundice)
         o Onset resembles intestinal flu

Although the Hamilton County Health Department reports that the risk
of infection is minimal, University and ARAMARK officials felt it is
important to inform the campus community of this situation and of our
efforts to ensure public safety. If you have any questions, contact
the UTC Office of Safety and Risk Management at 755-5209.
