For those of you interested in a relatively simple method for a diver to get
accurate GPS for underwater sites, I've posted the system on my website.

http://www.wadespage.com/D800DS07RF00.shtml

Its colloquially known as the "wade-o-meter" to several reef research teams in
southeast Florida who use it, usually with me attached. Terence and I use it often
to map otherwise nondescript but lobster filled rock ledges in the green water off
Ft Pierce and Vero. Since you have to pull a flag anyway, for both legal and
safety reasons, it might as well map as you go.

There's nothing difficult or secret about it, just I hadn't gotten around to writing
it up until now. I'm sure it's not even novel, but we've used it for over a year,
refining techniques, etc., and have used it to map difficult areas.

If you can't figure out why you'd want to use it, you probably need to swim a
mile search pattern in green water and wonder how you'd ever find the few good areas
again. Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it.

Email if you have further questions.
