I don't know, but don't be surprised if it looks like it's talking TCP
to a server's port 80. Or even if it looks like it's doing HTTP and
getting something vaguely HTML-like back as an answer. These appear
to be things to do if you want your application to connect to servers
on the global Internet in spite of any pesky firewalls or filtering
that the network administration may have in place.

I've seen at least one "stealth" application (pre-installed as part of
Toshiba's standard load on a Satellite 2805 notebook, but not a part
of the Windows Me OS that was also pre-installed on that notebook)
that will connect to a server running on vtsupport.answerteam.com to
get updated configuration files. The point of sufficient irritation
was that if the notebook's Ethernet port was connected, the
application would try to "phone home" every 10 minutes!

Fortunately, this application could be hunted down and de-installed
with some guesswork; and when Windows Me developed a terminal case of
The Flakeys a few months later, re-installing the standard load from
the recovery CD provided options which allowed me to omit the
troublemakers.
