The word "patriot" and derived words have, since 9/11/2001, been reprieved from cooption into the rightspeak lexicon.
"Patriot" has, in recent years, been the victim of redefinition from it's original and customary meaning (see
http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?term=patriot ) into yet another tool of political change by redefinition of emotionally
charged words. Increasingly, usage of "patriot" has been attempting to re-define "patriot" as a term of disapprobation, meaning
(my words): angry conservative or traditionalist, nationalist, anti-globalist, fundamentalist, anti-progressive, supporter of militias,
hater of diversity, or even armed white separatist.
"Patriot" is again an attribute Americans take pride in.
What other words can you think of that have had their meanings changed in this regard?
