Donald,

If the file is a simply ASCII file then you could do "INPUT
var;READCNT=6<file" and it would read the first six characters contained
within the file.

Subject: need help with var definition

I want to use the first six characters in a file as a var, but I can't
figure out how to do it. If anyone has a quick way of accomplishing this,
please forward the syntax and an example if possible.

Thanks
Donald
