Gary,
From my HP1000 days:
If it worked great on HP-IB but not RS-232, possible causes:
Buffer overruns (esp. very old HP printers)
baud too high for line quality/distance (should see some garbled characters)
RS-232 over PVC - various
Slowing down the baud rate will help in most cases.
Change to for add Enq/Ack protocol (as opposed to XON/XOFF)
XON/XOFF is a problem if the XOFF can not get to the host and be recognized before buffer overrun happens.
Virtual Permanent Circuits can be an especial bear - let me know if you are using PVCs

Subject: [HP3000-L] HP-IB Printer (LM815) change
I change the LM815 from HP-IB to serial (via a card). I can
print regular spooled files okay but when it comes to special
forms the printer has a problem. We use all the same settings
and the forms are controlled via the program and minisoft.
What happens is, it will print maybe three forms just fine, then
it will skip maybe 5,6 or 7 accounts and start printing again and
it will be off in the alignment, usually to low on the form.
Anyone?? I'm getting a little deperate. I could restore them to
the old 937, and reinstall the HP-IB card and get them printed
that way.
