Here is the response from C. Burch who claims to be the author of "ONE".
I thought here remarks were interesting. They coincide with the them of the
poem.

Subject: Re: Poem AKA One

Dear Mr.Barnes,

I have heard that too, and seen the poem atributed to this person, which is
different, slightly, from mine, which is why I have been trying to sort it
out.
I have not sold this poem nor tried to make any profit from it, so if other
people wish to claim it, I don't care to argue with anyone. I am just happy
that it is well read and enjoyed and am enjoying seeing it appear all over
the web. Unity (and not division) is after all the purpose of the thing.
Attribute it, or don't attribute it as you think is best. In a case of
copyright law, it will be determined by who published it first, which
shouldn't be too hard to prove if need be. I've encoded my version with
certain key words which allow me to keep track of it through search engines.
The fact that your version is entitled "one" is part of that coding and goes
back to one of my original postings on another board. It also runs as The
Power of One, and United and has several endings.

C. Burch
