I don't think it's market share by dollar amount. The figure I have seen
quite clearly indicated number of units sold. At any rate, I have never
heard of market share being divided by dollar amount with respect to market
share of one item versus another. It is always by units, as it is in this
case. Wishing that it were not so will not change reality.

It is indeed correct that Palm Size PC had a minuscule market share, which
actually shrank and lots of folks got out. The situation changed with the
advent of POCKET PC 2000, the Compaq iPAQ, the HP Jornada and the Casio
Cassiopeia. This is why I have been saying the change has been dramatic in
the last few months and PalmOS has had a very serious erosion of market
share. However, do remember they have a big head start and lots of users.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

1. It's closer to a 10% market share by unit volume.
2. Palmsized-PCs have had nearly that high a market share in previous years.
3. In Dec 2000, after Pocket PC had been out or 7-8 months, PPC market share
was lower than the Palmsized PC market share had been in Dec 1999.
4. Microsoft has actually been doing handhelds since Pen Windows came out in
   1993.

The new PPC 2002 looks interesting, though. I should be able to have one to
evaluate at some point, and I'm looking forward to it.
