Well, the obstacle is probably called "forward compatibility" or the
lack thereof. As far as I recall, HP-UX did have DSCOPY and vt3k (kind
of "remote hello") in the past, but they have been dropped at step by
step in the past.

You could try Java, Perl or Python, for example, for "scripted telnet".
I seem to recall that there was a thread with examples in the archives.
