I have become more and more disturbed by the use of the term "Islamic
fundamentalists". I do not blame William, of course, since this is the
favorite term of the Press. The problem is that murder of innocents is not
a fundamental of Islam. What we are dealing with are murderers who distort
the teachings of their religion to justify their murder. "Muslim
extremists" or even "quasi-Muslim terrorists" would be better terms. The
use of this terminology by the press has two unfortunate side-effects: It
tends to unfairly brand all Muslims, and it legitimizes the terrorists by
implying that they are merely being devout.
