Thanks for all the replies.
Some replies to replies ...
Display Functions does not reveal any unnecessary chars being sent in.
Same script with the MyUserName chunk left out connects fine.
This would MyUserName is causing the pb.
This in turn supports Robert Mills' idea that the MyUserName string is
actually 255 chars long when it is .Transmitted.
I will attempt his solution ...
