Need help with HP 9150i CDW

Installed a HP CD Writer 9150i for the first time. The OS is WIN 98, CPU is
an AMD Athlon T Bird 1000 G and theMB is an ASUS - A7V/133.

After installing the HP software, restarting the computer and then clicking
on the HP icon the following error message appeared " Invalid page fault in
module DIRAPI.DLL at 016f:68085667: Registers:.... Bytes at CS:....
EIP:..... Stack Dump....." etc.

What is the conflict? Any ideas.
