Dr. Doug Kutz and the Chemistry faculty have been awarded
$97,030 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to purchase a
gas chromatograph mass spectrometer (GC-MS), which will serve as
an important research tool in the department.
This award from NSF's Major Research Instrumentation program is the
first ever for UTC. The MRI program is designed to improve the quality
of research and research training in science and engineering and to foster
the integration of research and education by providing instrumentation
for research-intensive learning environments.
Dr. Kyle Knight and Dr. Rob Mebane will assist Dr. Kutz with
acquiring the equipment. The acquisition of the
GC-MS will give science majors at UTC an opportunity to use the equipment
both in coursework and in solving research-related problems.
Congratulations to Dr. Kutz and the Chemistry faculty on being recognized
for the
academic excellence of the Chemistry program.
