Dear UTC Faculty:

I would like to take this opportunity to share with you information
regarding a unique teaching opportunity available through UTC's membership
in the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA). For those of you who
may be unfamiliar with CCSA, it is a higher education consortium of 23
colleges and universities headquartered at Northern Kentucky University.
CCSA develops, plans, and coordinates regularly scheduled study abroad
programs in Australia, Barbados, England, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, and
Scotland, in addition to other study abroad, alumni, or community programs
in English-speaking regions. It offers courses in a very wide variety of
academic disciplines; from traditional liberal arts courses in history,
literature, and art to agriculture, business, the sciences, health care,
and education. CCSA classes are taught by faculty from UTC and other
consortium-member universities. Our students receive UTC credit
(undergraduate, graduate, and professional in-service) for successfully
completing the CCSA program in which they are enrolled.

Since joining the consortium in 1992, several UTC faculty and students have
participated in CCSA programs. This past summer, for example, Mr. Ron
Buffington taught a modern painting class in London and Dr. Verbie Prevost
taught a course in the Irish Short Story in Ireland. Other UTC faculty who
have taught CCSA courses include Dr. Marilyn Helms, Dr. Anne Bailey, and
Professor Steve LeWinter. Through our CCSA connection, we have also sent
business courses to England, Ireland, and Australia, and art and English
courses to England. This next summer we will be sending several courses
from the College of Education and Applied Professional Studies to England.
CCSA provides you with a great opportunity to teach a country- specific,
topical course in one of the countries listed above.

The Board of Trustees of the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA) is
now accepting proposals from faculty for courses to be taught in the
2002/2003 London Winter, Australia, and Kenya Programs. Appropriate
courses in all disciplines are welcome. The deadline for submission of
course proposals for the winter programs is
September 28, 2001.

The programs are approximately two weeks in length and have been scheduled
for departure on
December 26, 2002. The typical course plan includes pre-trip readings,
on-site journaling, and post-trip projects/papers. The classes are
essentially conducted as the field trip portion of courses for which travel
to the respective countries can constitute a critical academic element.

The London Winter Program is hotel-based in central London. Course
disciplines in previous programs include anthropology, art, business,
communication, finance, geography, health care, journalism, literature,
marketing, photography, and theatre. The Australia Program is flexible in
both location and accommodation. Lodgings for the two-week program range
from hotels to dormitory-style facilities, based upon location. Previous
programs have been based in and around Cairns and Sydney. They have
included courses in the following disciplines: animal science,
anthropology, art, biology, business, communication, economics, education,
geology, health care, marketing, psychology, and women's studies.

The structure of the Kenya Program is similar to that of the Australia
Program. The 2001/2002 program is based in Nairobi and the Maasai Mara.
Courses in the areas of biology and women's studies were included in the
inaugural program offerings.

For any faculty considering one of CCSA's summer programs, the deadline for
submission of proposals has been scheduled for mid-February. Further
details pertaining to these programs will be distributed in December.

I would encourage you to visit the CCSA website at http://www.ccsa.cc. For
your convenience, the course proposal form is available in Word format.
Please feel free to contact either me for additional information or to
obtain a course proposal form (printed copy or via email as an attachment).
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hugh Prevost
