Kim Wheetley, Director of the Southeast Center for Education in the
Arts, has been awarded $36,000 for second-year funding from the Lavine
Production Group. The funding will support the Instructional Design
for Arts Education Television Project entitled The Arts in Every Classroom.

The Arts in Every Classroom is designed to give elementary school teachers
a richer understanding of dance, music, theater and the visual arts, and
to help teachers integrate the arts effectively into their classrooms. The
components of The Arts in Every Classroom include the following:

a series of eight one-hour television workshop programs showing
teachers getting hands-on experience with lessons that they - and
viewers can take directly back to their classrooms

a videotape resource library of documentary pieces showing
classroom teachers and arts specialists in a variety of settings
as they plan, teach, and work with community resources.

two interactive websites with programming and resources that
enrich and support the learning experience, plus online versions
        of all print materials.

print materials including lesson plans from each Workshop Program,
along with agendas for Wraparound Workshops for use with professional
        development courses.

Lavine Production Group, a New York-based company that specializes in
television programming about education and the arts, is producing the
series. KSA-Plus Communications in Arlington, Virginia will provide the print
material and websites.

The first six television episodes were shot the last week of
July in Washington, DC, and are currently being edited. Camera crews will be
traveling this fall to document the work of teachers from three
participating schools in Memphis, Arlington, VA, and White Plains, NY.

Best wishes to Kim Wheetley and the SCEA staff for the success of this
project.
