Yes, Seattle would be an excellent choice for HP World in 2002.

The last time any event of this nature was held in Seattle was the 1993
Interex Computing Symposium in April of that year.

Who can forget the lunch time presentation by Marybeth Fidler from Tecker
Consultants, "Building Consensus in the '90s and Beyond"?

Seattle offers many advantages: My wife told me of the young 28 year old
woman who was standing on a bridge while people were standing around
advising her to "Jump!"; whereupon people in other countries have been
asking the question, "Is Seattle civilized?".

The obvious answer is "No!" and that it makes it a perfect place for HP
World. We're just sure that folks on this forum can let their imaginations
loose on extracurricular activities during the conference--like reviewing
buildings damaged during the last earthquake (and hey, we might have one
while you are there!); visiting the scenes of the World Trade Organization
meetings where people were gassed by the Seattle Police; another strong
draw is to visit the Space Needle where the Year 2000 New Year was NOT
celebrated because the city officials weren't sure about what would happen
if they did have a New Year's Eve Party; and don't forget the people who
were flooded during the last runoff due to some missteps of the public
works crew. And maybe, just maybe, Mount Rainier will give you some
excellent displays of natural origin.

Seattle is the home of the Seattle Mariners (and maybe they will have a
good season next year) and the Seattle Seahawks [who are actually in
Kirkland, but play in Seattle].

There's the new Safeco Field near where the King Dome was razed (and the
inhabitants are still paying for it!).

And parking! Yes, parking! Seattle is one of the few cities in which Meter
Maids actually ticket Seattle City vehicles!

Yes, Seattle offers many features of the big city, like high prices, very
heavy traffic (actually #2 or #3 in the US), and they have lots of
panhandlers, just like in San Francisco, for those who would like added
local color.

And while they can't necessarily guarantee snooty waiters and awful service
as bad as in Paris or San Francisco, they come pretty close--but the food
tastes good and goes down easy; we won't venture to say what happens after
that, especially if you drink the water.

The Washington Convention Center over Interstate 5 is waiting for us once
again and is a serious contender for yet another HP World Event.
