I've had the same 'bad' experiences in L.A. Phoenix, Ft. Lauderdale, etc.
etc.
Heck, I even had someone try to steal my van right out of my carport in
Mesa, AZ. (years ago)

You can stumble into a 'bad' experience if you don't know the terrain, no
matter what city you're in.

Strange comment.  Los Angeles possesses (for those with the transportation
means to find it) a huge variety of genuine ethnic cuisines.  You name it,
we've
got it, along with a substantial native population to ensure that good
restaurants
get enough business to thrive.  If you have the curiosity to explore
non-American
food in Los Angeles, you won't be disappointed.  My recommendation: start in
Koreatown, it's real close to downtown.

I agree with the comments about McCormick Place.  I foolishly attempted to
go
for a walk in the adjacent streets.  Bad idea.  Very bad idea.
