This problem was fixed in some of the pthreads patches done
last year. I pulled these patch ID's from a RC call; no
doubt they've been superseded by now but this should get
you started in the right direction:
Draft 4 threads patch: MPEKXY4
Draft 10 threads patch: MPEKXY3
