Hi all,
While writing a test suite to test the proposed bigpin feature on C.70.01, I
hit a strange problem...
When creating a large numbre of child (children ?) processes from the same
parent, I hit a createstatus = 4 at child#910. I suspected I had hit some
limit like "nnn" children per parent, but it's not the case. When breaking
my test suite into slammer pieces, like 10 times 100 children, same results.
When launching 909 children then running (in another Reflection window)
another program, say discfree, same results. When trying to launch another
session same thing. The exact error message is 'out of system resources'.
The child process just calls pause. It does not open any files. It gobbles
up very very little stack, heap and transient space. I also checked for a
possible disk space exhaustion/fragmentation problem, but it's not the case
either. After launching the 909 children, I still have about 1.7 million
sectors avail to trans on the system domain, including a few blocks of
100,000 or more sectors.
I tried to run the parent with :debug enabled. From the stack trace, it
looks like it is trying to expand a ports descriptor system table but fails
with an error of -40 from subsys 107, or invalid size specified from VSM.
This is not related to the bigpin feature, which is not yet installed on my
system. The MPE/iX version is C.70.01 P5 (Source : HPSWINFO), MPE/iX C.39.06
(source : showme). The system is a 978 with 256 Mbytes and 2 2-gig internal
disks.
I am trying to run the same test suite on a C.65.02 box, but I don't have
enough transient space, and the program aborts with 'out of disk space' at
about 120 children. I will also cross-check sysgen configs for possible
discrepancies in the few configurable system parameters.
A search of ITRC yielded no results (that's usual), and a search of HP3000-L
archives yielded no results either (that's more unusual).
Anyone else got similar problems ? Any help and suggestions available ?
