While I am *not* a Windows expert, it is my impression that
Windows tends to keep various resources longer than expected,
maybe to optimize (re)access times. For example, you can also
see that it does not close the tcp connection to the Samba
server after you disconnect your last network drive.
If you want to free the server resources with "brute force",
you can use smbstatus to see the SMBD process ID (while the
PC still has a drive mapped) and send it a kill signal from
