My recommendation for intrinsic level logging (ILR or Intrinsic Level Recovery) was misguided and inappropriate - showing my HP1000 roots and lack of experience as an HP3000 DBA over the last 5 or so years.
I'll soon post an explanation of the logging options that I should have recommended for the same purposes.
Indeed, others have already posted responses explaining how XDM logging addresses these issues.
