Hello @ 3000-l,

Re: telnet loading MPE, terminal emulator

-------------------------------------------------- Joe Weisman writes --
I have a client who is running about 150 terminals on a 957 and he is
happy with the performance he is getting, but if he has even 10 PC's
connect via telnet, the performance on the 957 seems to go all to heck.
Is this a known problem or a mystery or what?
------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is: "A mystery or what". It is not common to see a case where 10
PC's running telnet into the HP e3K could cause a system performance
problem.

Has any investigation been performed with a performance analysis tool to
determine what if any process are consuming excessive CPU time ?

Could you get a debug stack trace of a process which is "consuming
excessive CPU time" to determine what code/procedures are being
executed.

I do recommend the appropriate Telnet "PTD" and NS-Transport "NST"
General Release patches be installed before running Telnet on a system,
but a fix for this problem description does not exist that I am aware
of.

Have the buffer pool size been checked with nettool ?

  :nettool.net.sys;info="res;di;quit"

It would be good to have the HP RC check this out and see if they can
find any difficulties.
