This reminds me of an experience that occurred over 20 years ago when I was
a police recruit. My training sergeant was an avid runner, former ASU track
star. He always talked about his favorite runner an the marathons he
entered. One day during training my sergeant came out on the field, very
down (sad). He related that this runner, while running a marathon,
collapsed on the course and died from a massive heart attack.

I've had close friends who have received a "clean bill of health" after a
complete physical who died suddenly from heart attacks. (these friends were
very active and physically fit).

Physical fitness does help one feel better but it doesn't necessarily mean
they will live longer.

Remember the call a doctor a practicing physician. Focus on the term
"practicing" and who are they practicing on?

Dont forget the studies that showed that people who exercised a lot lived
longer, but only by the amount of time they spent exercising.

Very sad news, and there's nothing like nasty accidents to scare people off
something. Of course the socially conscious person could react to this case
by cycling rather than driving so that they are less likely to kill someone
else.

I take heart from research that suggests that on average regular cyclists
live several years longer than non-cyclists due to better health and
fitness.
