We had an occasion to use the undedlok utility here awhile back. Not sure which O/S level we were on at the time, good chance it was 5.5. But one of things we learned was that there a "deadlock detect" flag that can be enabled for your databases. In fact, if I remember correctly, the default in 5.5 was for it not to be set, but changed either in 6.0 or 6.5. That may explain why your not seeing it in 6.0. Either way you may want to check your databases via dbutil and to see if deadlock detect is enabled.

Andreas, you seem to imply that database deadlocks are less likely under 6.0
than 5.5. It seems to me that a true deadlock is the result of application
programs locking data structures in a nonstandard order, and as such is not
affected by the OS. Can you (or anyone) explain why you would encounter
fewer deadlocks on 6.0?

Yes, John, we used it quite often under 5.5 to release DataBase Deadlocks.
It was a bit tricky sometimes to identify the problem pin but it worked
fine so that we could avoid a reboot during production day.

Under 6.0 we have to use it very seldom ( I cannot remember the last time),
and I HIGHLY recommend to update to 6.0 ...

Subject: [HP3000-L] UNDEDLOK/iX

Good afternoon from hot-hot south Texas and getting hotter around the
office(not due to weather).

One of our users has managed to stream a particular ECOMETRY job twice with
the same source and target file. Well, when the two jobs fired off...guess
what...the good old "IMP" wait state struck.

I have come across a program in telesup - UNDEDLOK/iX and was wondering if
anyone has used this utility successfully on release 5.5. If you have
please contact me...
